Description 'Even stones shed their leafs' and ' Woodcuts' series

The sculptures titled ' Even stones shed their leafs' and' Woodcuts' are based on working methods for carving in wood. People instantly perceive a tree as something living and even when it is dead they are able to make the distinction between a living and a dead one. Stone however is often perceived as static. It didn't flourish in springtime or shed it?s leafs in autumn. However, stone has been formed underground, not visible to the human eye and has gone through 'seasons' to become like it is. Its ability to carry a new destination which I depict, and mature as time goes by, makes it to me a very lively entity.
When taking a pocketknife and cutting away in a dead branch, I, in that moment, give the material a new destination. As a result of a natural occurrence , the branch fell to the ground. I picked it up and laid upon it my desire to shape it. By portraying a wood orientated approach in stone, I wanted to take the viewer for a walk in the woods. Showing the fastness of its space.
